Its really no different than the DIY yeast CO2. It uses yeast and sugar mixed in water to make co2. The mixture normally has to be replaced ever 1-2 weeks.

I use the Nutrafin system its pretty good. However you have to be very strict with the changing of the mix to keep your co2 stable

Cheaper to make them yourself using plastic fizzy drinks bottles, airline, aquarium silicon and some form of diffuser (lime wood air diffusers are good for this purpose).
