It's been there a few days now. I'd noticed it before but from a distance it looks like a small open tube worm. tonight I looked closely and discovered it was no such thing!

Yeah it looks like a mushroom with scary legs!

Agree with Ski looks like a rock anenome that I got on some live rock too
Mine been in he tank for 6 months now with no ill effects. Its not gone walkabout or bothered anything aroung it. Nor tried to spawn in any way. Mines almost tripled in size and now is about 3" diameter. Cool to watch it feeding its mouth with its blown up sticky arms
I'd just leave it but keep an eye on it.
