Anyone know anything about crabs?

Hi,
  I’m extremely new to the forums so I think I best say hi to everyone before I jump right in with some questions so HI.

  Now to the questions, I've had my tropical tank for about 2 years now and I'm looking for a change. The change being I've decided to get some crabs, the problem being I know nothing about crabs.

 So I'm hoping that someone out there has had or has crabs and they could tell me what kind of set up I need to keep them and advice on how to keep them.

 I've kind of been looking at Red Crabs but as I say I don't really have a clue so advice on what kind of crab I should get would be helpful too.

OK firstly hi and welcome to the forum its nice to have another new member

Red Claw Crabs hmmmmmmm speaking from experience theyre a pain in the butt lol, you will need to have either an extremelly tight fitting cover or possibally even have to go to the extent that i had to do and tape up the cover to ensure no gaps for them to escape from (i have lost several in the past that have decided the grass looked greener on the other side lol) they wil scale heater wires filters anything available to get them out.......ive even witnessed them climbing the silicone :0

Add to that the fact that they will attack anything slow enough to become a target and my advice would be dont bother!! i have had Pleco's and Eels injured and even killed by these critters before so i personally do not intend keeping anymore once the last one that i have has either escaped or died

They looked so nice in the shop and i only got them because my kids wanted them but they turned out to be an absolute nightmare for me and my fish lol

You could of course go for a Crab only set up using the 1/2 & 1/2 method of 1/2 water & 1/2 land consisting of a tank that has very shallow water and a large amount of exposed land for the crabs to rets and forage on but i am no expert on this although i do believe that some other members may have taken this approach

I’ve been looking on different sites and checking out what keeping crabs would entail and even though they seem to like escaping and generally being a pain I’m still going to try and keep some. They sound like an interesting challenge.

At the moment my aquarium is empty and ready for a good clean. My fish are now in a friend’s aquarium and I'm going to dedicate mine to only keeping crabs.

I've seen a few examples of the "half and half" method and that’s what I’m going to try and reproduce in my aquarium.

I'm still after any advice I can get though, so if anyone else has any I'd appreciate your input.

Yeah i'd like to see some photo's of it too..........it'll give me an excuse to set up another tank (not that i really need an excuse lol)
