saw an octopus in Jaydee Aquatics today, lovely little thing and I;ve always been intrigued by them

not sure what type it wwas just marked as octopus £125

would love to set a tank up for one despite their short lifespan

Simon

They don't live long, need very precise care and will try (and usually triumph) to escape.
Please note that on octopus is very strong and will be able lift the lid of most aquariums.
In my eyes it's a critter best left to the very experienced.

I would love to have an octopus tank or a stingray tank but i'll leave that for my next life! lol

you could try a cuttlefish... though i think both need chillers and those things really $$ haha

I have read a few threads there are a group of americans that keep them.

It is possible but takes an escape proof tank and a lot of dedication

Cuttlefish are the next best option and are an easier solution considered these myself :0

cheers Morri

By the way you ain;t been on here for a long time!!

are you ok?

Simon :good:

I'm sure most have read this but I think it's funny. Lifted from cracked.com, think I edited out the swearing.

"As anyone who's been bored enough to watch Animal Planet late at night will tell you, the octopus is a creature of very high intelligence (and occasionally, precognitive powers). But what would happen if they directed all that impressive brain power specifically toward causing trouble? World chaos, probably, because it took one octopus doing that to turn an entire aquarium upside down in Coburg, Germany.
Bored with the unbearable dullness of life in an enclosed tank (and possibly suffering from a little ADD), Otto the octopus is constantly looking for ways to keep himself entertained. And since he lives in an aquarium, he needs to go to great lengths to achieve that, mostly in ways that involve being a jerk to his neighbors. Like when he starts juggling the hermit crabs, or rearranging everything inside the water tank to cause stress to its other inhabitants.

And if that isn't enough, he starts throwing rocks and cracking the glass.

But that's not what made Otto famous -- that would be the time he endangered the entire aquarium. In a fit of boredom, Otto decided he'd had enough of the light shining down on his tank and realized he had the intelligence and the means to do something about it. Swinging himself onto the edge of his tank, he took aim at the light and squirted a jet of water toward it, killing that light ... plus every other light in the building.

Otto's squirt short-circuited the electrical supply to the entire aquarium, which could have had fatal implications for the animals residing in it when the electrical pumps in the tanks stopped working. The aquarium workers fixed the problem as soon as they noticed it ... and then Otto did it again. And again, and again, until the staff held a three night vigil, sleeping on the floor of the aquarium, and finally realized how he was doing it."

Have three small ones at work, had them for maybe a month now. The supplier sent them to us without asking...
They get 1/3 water changes daily and ghost shrimp. They don't eat the ghost shrimp "shells" so gotta go in and fish them out. I don't know what species they are, but they are not very active during the day.

Interesting creatures but the inactivity makes them a bit boring imo... although I must admit watching them shoot out their arms and grab shrimp in a split second is cool... and they like to rapidly and dramatically change colors. We have them in a special tank that is pretty much impossible for them to get out of.

Yeah all good thanks Simon, Just work has been chaos at the moment been promoted, so having to break the tank down too much work atm so converting a 60L to a ECO marine tank and converting the 100 Gallon to a Tropeous Tank.

good luck Morri

I had the same issue with work last June and its not just the extra work in work hours its the stress you take home that makes you just want to chill!! :good:

Yip and when you get in to sit down look at the tank and start thinking this needs doing that needs doing my head just wants to explode hence going for 2 easier options :)
