SAPs are the best puffers for community tanks in the same sort of way that an air gun is less dangerous than a machine gun. Yes, SAPs are less likely to bite their tankmates than most other puffers, but they still will bite given the chance. It may take a few days for the barbs to catch on, and to be honest, in a big enough aquarium -- 55 gallons upwards -- I'd have though redline torpedo barbs would be fine companions for SAPs. But every puffer is different, so to some extent you have to observe and act accordingly.

i have 2 sa puffrs in my big tank, got them the other day, after reading on here that they are the best puffers to keep in a community aquarium, the smorning ive noticed few of my red torpedo barbs have been nipped on the fins ad i take it it was the puffers, will this be a problem? i only got them after a thorough read that people kept them in a community aquaruim no bother
