We are planning on building our 5000 gallon tank as soon as the snow is gone. :sly: I have been researching as much as possible, anyone out there have good advice or tips? :fish:

Haha , dont think anyone on the forum has built a tank quite that size. Did u know it might be cheaper to get a custom built aquarium from a copany like widsor aquatics , might be worth an email to get a quote.

If you do decide to do it yourself you might want to read through the pinned 'Building a tank' Article.

Hope this helps a little bit

just leave building big tank to the profesionals its safer

A tank that size will need to be a concrete and steel construction with glass windows set into the frame rather than a conventional tank.

Actually guys, it only takes dementions of 14' long x 8' wide x 6' high, to achive just over 5000 gallons.
Our piece of acrylic would be 12' long x 4' high. The tank will be constructed by reinforced concrete generously coated with acrylic paint. I was told that it's a good idea to use three different colours of the paint to assure even coverage.

Might be worth you having a look through the DIY section on MFK:

Edit: link is censored on here :(

Let me knowif you want it via email ;)
