Anyone got a gerbil?

Has anyone got a gerbil.I have a female gerbil and i dont know whats the matter with her.She sits in her cage crying like a guinna pig.She has plenty of toys and company but she cries when i take her out of her cage or when shes playing with her toys.Is this normal for them to do this? does anyone elses gerbil squeek?

I have a gerbil now and have had two others in the past. The first gerbil I had was alone in her cage. These last two were sisters and stayed together for a couple of years and then one died. Now I have the other one who is alone. And to be honest, I've never heard any of them squeek or make a noise of any kind.

How long have you had your gerbil? Have you seen her eat and drink? Is she a young gerbil or an adult?

I don't know why she would be squeeking like that. Is it possible she could be injured if you did just buy her from a pet store?

Shes about 8month old now.I dont think shes lonely or anything because shes always eating and she seems to be really happy when she sees people in the room.I wonder if its her way of talking sort of thing,like guinna pigs make noises.sounds silly dont it.lol.

Well, that may very well be true. If she's eating well and walking around just fine, maybe she is just a really verbal gerbil. Maybe it's just been weird that mine never have been verbal. LOL

My brother used to breed gerbils
He says if left on there own for long periods they will pine, you should get her a female friend unless you want lots of babies. my brother stopped breeding when he had over 2000 and couldnt find enough pet shops to take them all.
you could also handle her more often.

shes always out of her cage being handled.I was going to get another gerbil but when i got this 1 i asked for a male and they sed she was a definate male but it turns out shes a girl and i didnt want to be buying a female gerbil and findin out its a male.i just think she mite b a bit timid or something because when i first got her the woman in the pet shop was trying to get her from the tank and she was crying then.
