anyone evr have a butterfly pleco? I am not talking about the striped on e but the one with two sets of pelvic fins. do a search on the scientific name if u think u have heard of them.

Been to 'planet catfish' and they look lovely  don't know about different species but that's the site to go to.

i looked but it came up as what looked like a black and white raphael and the one i am talking about looks a little like a hillstream loach. i googled it but the only sites it's on are german

Butterfly plecos or Hong Kong plecos/Borneo suckers as they are sometimes also known are hill stream loaches which means they belong to the group of fish known as Cyprinids and are not actually plecos at all. They are cold water fish that are found in fast flowing mountain streams in temperate countries and so need a lot of oxygen in the tank to remain healthy, they are not suitable for tropical communities and would be better kept in a specialised species tank.

They require lower temperatures and a strong current. The only fish I can think of that is easy to find and can be kept with them is the white cloud mountain minnow. You cannot keep them in a tropical community tank unless you lower the temperature - which the other fish wouldn't like. If you realy want some, consider a planted tank with lots of open swimming space, a strong current and lower temperature and combine some of these with a large shoal of white clouds.
