I had them before, great fish but unfortunately not suited to aquarium life since no one has been able to grow one to adult size in captivity. They are quite shy and will need a very large species tank to be kept properly, i tried mine in a predator community and they just couldnt compete properly for food. Since adult fish are found in rapids and at the base of waterfalls a very strong current is recomended for fish over 8 inches so at least two powerheads pushing around 300 gallons a hour each positioned at one end of the tank are needed. They are nocturnal feeders so will need to be fed with the lights out, they can be difficult to ween off feeders but with a little trial they can be taught to accept any large frozen foods, mine were taking cockle, whitebait and mussel before they died.
he'll be disappointed to hear they will probably only get 12" in captivity. He was hoping to get a 700+g aquarium and have these 3' long fish with massive teeth patroling . thanks for link with the info
I saw some of these guys being sold at a lfs. They were with danios, and tiger barbs, shovel noses and needle fish. They were only like 3'' but you could tell they were meateaters.
