Anyone Ever Cut 8 Mm Glass

tbh mate i would go to a glass cutters

Sorry no idea never done it, may be able to find out though what are you doing drilling holes or cutting sheets?

I've cut glass using a glass cutter to score the glass, then gently folding it so that the score extends into a clean cut break, the resulting edges are very sharp though, and it can only be done on annealed glass, I doubt it'd work for this gauge of glass however.

cutting a damaged tank down to size and rebuilding as a sump, but think i will probably take sorgans advice and get it done at local glasscutters

I know how to cut glass!!!!! :hyper:

..........Very #58### carefully!

Problem you will have with that thickness of glass is you will never get a clean edge using a glass cutting tool. I used a mix of a dremel with a diamond blade and wet and dry sand paper to smooth the edges as best i could and used silicon to fill the gaps. Try to minimize the cutting down to the absolute minimum as the less cut edges you have the easier your life will be. As others have said a glazier is definetly the way forward. I was charged £5 for about 20 odd cuts when i did mine. Also buy your self some leather gloves or similar the weight of the glass mixed with the sharpness of the cut edges makes for a really bad day with even the slightest mistake.

You can get diamond coated blades for dremels and also larger circular saws. But unless you know what your doing i wouldn't risk anything larger than the dremel.

Used to make windows for a while when i left school and all of the glass was cut the same from what i remember. scored and then folded over the edge of a cloth covered table for the break. 99% went well but there was always the odd one that wouldnt break cleanly. you need to make sure you score the class well before you go for the break. we used a sanding belt to take off the edges so sandpaper will do the job.
