Anyone Build Their Own Filter?/filter Questions

Hi, I'm to see if anyone built their own filter and if it was worth it. Also, if it was easy(generally speaking, I'm pretty handy). I'm building my stand tomorrow for 30g tank and am looking into filtration possibilities. Brackish tank, what do you guys suggest?

For such a small tank I wouldn't bother. Just the time and the cost alone wouldn't come close to the sweat shop filters. Some HOB will do the job depending on the substraight you use.

Ya, for a 30 gallon, the water amount is so minimal that if you want extra filtration then just get a HOB filter that is for a larger tank. On my 55 (which is maybe the smallest size tank I would consider doing a sump filtration, I have a HOB that filters 350 gph so I'm turning it over 6X to 7X which is ample filtration and cost me only $35. The sump would be nice to get the heater out of the tank, but it would most assurely cost much more.

only real cost is a powerhead! need a couple of bits on plastic tube,2 suction cups some silicone, an old tall dried food container some sponge and about 1hour to build it, and 3 weeks to make the silicone suckers stick to the inside of your tank lol.
