i'm talking about the G series, where i work we have the g3 and g6 i think and for the guys who work this is interesting! with some sort of computer screen that tracks water parameters and modern appearance it looks good. but looks are sometimes deceiving. i'm just curious about what you guys think?

theyre really nothing special.
the fact of the matter is, you can get a filter that is just as effective (or more so) functionally for much less.
however, if you want something aesthetically pleasing, this may be for you.
really depends on what your looking for in a filter. fashion or function.

We just set up a big display with a working Fluval G6 at my work, and they basically look awesome.

Everything is fantastic about them except the price, and the way that the pre-filter cartridge needs to be a Fluval one. That's not too bad though, as it does work very, very well with no bypass and the dirt collects on the inside of it. Plus the filter tells you when it needs changing, alerting you to a decreased flow rate.

If your on a budget, then obviously it's not worth it.

But if you have a very high budget or just really appreciate shiny gadgets, they are very efficient filters with what seems to be fantastic build quality.

I'm undecided on if I want to get one though, I could get a Fluval G3 for £240 with my staff discount, or couple of Fluval 405s/ Rena XP4s/Tetratec EX1200s/Eheim 2224s or even a Fluval FX5/Eheim 2078/2080, all options would provide a much better value for money approach, with regards to filtration efficiency anyway.

Just totally depends how much you like shiny gadgets, and your wallet :D.

I have seen the ads for them and like the appearance quite a bit. Although I do not have a serious problem with my fish budget, I expect to get value for my money. I do not see the value in the trick little gadgets that have been added to that shiny new filter box. The doo-dads just don't add up to a better filter.

while we have a healty filter conversation going what do you guys make of the eheim 2227 wet/dry. i was thinking of adding it to my aqua one 980 which has a wet dry in the hood (built in) but i do want some sort of cannister filter. i was thinking perhaps a 2028 but i just saw a 2227 and wondered which one to go for, for me the 2028 seems like a better filter as it has a bigger volume and a more powerful power head. but just thought i would ask for your views. also fr a wet/dry is there some sort of funny installation that you don't have to do when buying a "normal" filter.

I have no idea about that particular wet/dry but they do work more or less the same way as a home made sump. The hardest part is probably getting the water to them from the tank. Unless you happen to have a drilled tank, you will be faced with some sort of overflow to bring the water down to the wet/dry. Once the water arrives in the wet/dry, you have what is arguably the best possible filter for a tank. It is having the water arrive that can be challenging. I have come across several sump piping diagrams in this section of the forum so have a look around.

The Eheim wet/dry filters are basically as easy to set up as other externals. I don't use one but sold one a few months ago, so have been through how it works and have only gotten positive feedback from the customer (who uses it on a marine tank). I've also experienced one running during a tank maintenance.

The only tiny drawback is that they are slightly louder than normal externals, but nothing you should worry about unless they are being kept outside of a cabinet in our bedroom and you cant sleep without silence :good:.

Also, they are so efficient that paying the extra money for one on the vast majority of tanks is overkill of biological filtration, but hey, if you like overkill (like me) then they are great value for money and do a fantastic job.
