Hello all, hope your well. i have a rena aqualife tank, 120x50 which holds about 83 imperial gallons. im ready to get my LR but and hearing different information on the amount i need. some people say 1lb per gallon and others say 1.5lb per gallon ,i think thats right. not only is the cost alot more between the 2 amounts, but i also want to fit a few fish in the tank without mount everest growing out the top!

I've seen some LR going alot cheaper than my LFS but it's only being sold as 55KG in one lot and i'm not sure if this is too much. can anybody tell me the exact amount i need, preferably in kg's if poss? Thanks.
oh, i should also tell you that i will be housing shrimp, fish, coral and that sort of thing, and am already running a rena bio filter.

While i'm here, does anybody know about skimmers? i have a red sea prism skimmer, and it is quite noisey which i think is the norm but instead of collecting foam type waste it is collecting dirty water. the tank has just been set up and maybe this is normal? it also creates alot of micro bubbles which fill most of the tank. i have moved it so that it discharges over the glass strutt at the top of the tank but am unsure if this is ok?

sorry everybody, i know i am worse than useless and my sporn should be wiped from the earth, but i'm keen to learn. just need lots of guidence!

its ok dont worry

Dont be sorry, its ok to ask questions like this. How much are they charging for 55kgs of rock in one lot? Thats 121lbs which is about 1.375 lbs per gallon. Thats pretty much the perfect amount so as long as the price is good and the rock looks up to snuff, I'd go for it :).

They want about £300 for it and its said to be well cured. it was in a tank with 4 fish for over 2 years, which sounds ok. i asked if any copper based medication was ever added to the tank and they said no as they had mushrooms in with it. thoght that was important as i'm looking to have corals.

Nope
No one can tell you how much live rock to have as it comes down to bioload of the tank, the visual look and the depth of your pockets.
The 1lb per gallon is a guideline and should be used as a minimum IMO - I myself have around 88kgs in total in my setup (36g display, 20g sump & external filter) so there's no real upper limit apart from the physical space available
i have moved it so that it discharges over the glass strutt at the top of the tank but am unsure if this is ok?
I personally would move it as it will only increase evaporation and mean more frequent top offs. Try putting a fine sponge in the outlet to trap the bubbles instead.

£300 for 55kgs?!?!?!?!??!

From what I understand of Brittish prices, that is PHENOMENAL for LR. As long as it looks like its got appropriate growth on it, I would not pass go and proceed directly to buying it all
