Hi :)

This is Scarlet. He's nearing 2 years old now.

He's been like this for a long time, almost 6 months or so. As you can see by the pic, he has quite a hunched back and a rather fat chest and thin tummy. He mostly hangs at the top of the tank (1 gal), and occasionally rests at the bottom. He still flares and eats great. I know its not bladder bloat.

His tail is snipped, which was my fault (Stupid fish net. after that, I've been using dixie cups to scoop my fish for water changes). The tail is growing back.

Any suggestions on how to straighten his back out? or is it a hopeless case? After all, he's eating and flaring well. I have been using Betta remedy, and stress coat. of course, aquarium salt.

EDIT: I forgot to mention, his mouth is alittle twisted. I honestly dont remember if he was like that when I got him or not.. he was in a glass ornament as a wedding centerpeice when i took him home.

Well, he is kind of fat, but that by itself isn't that big a deal. Maybe try feeding him less if you want to remedy that, or offer him frequent peas?

2 years old is quite up there in age. I would suspect that his problems are in relation to that. Regardless, if he's in good spirits, eats well, and doesn't seem to be suffering, then the strange things going on with him probably aren't that big a deal, especially if it's been going on for 6 months already. I also doubt that there's anyway to correct it.

thanks Kiara :)

He totally ignores peas. I feed my guys peas at least once a week. though Scarlet and my females ignore them totally.

Thanks for responding :D

Are you changing his water enough? I would say.... maybe more water changes, some stress coat, and salt. He doesn't look like he has fungus, or anything.

once a week, sometimes twice a week in water changes.

I do add stress coat and salt after every change too.

I think trying to correct that would be like trying to make an old man young again... impossible. However, I'm sure he can be perfectly happy just the way he is :D
