Hello,

I'm looking at returning to a hobby of fish keeping, specifically keeping cherry shrimp.

The biOrb Life 15L is very appealing to me due to its price, design and integration in one unit. I understand that they aren't really suitable for fish which I'm fine with and I've had suggestions about keeping shrimp.

Has anyone successfully kept shrimp in a biOrb with live plants for a long period of time? The biggest downfall of a biOrb is poor filtration, but I understand as long as the original ceramic media is kept in the tank, the filtrations should be adequate for shrimp.

Advice with this tank is greatly appreciated.

Hi welcome to the forum :) If your going for a designer style tank what about a fluval edge? More flexible over all with accessories, decor and inhabitants but I realise its not a mock fish bowl.

Thanks for the welcome :)

I've looked at the fluvial edge 23L but it's just not high enough for my liking :(. Would shrimp be happy on the ceramic media as there isn't really much options for other media since it would get stuck in the filter.

How about Fluval Edge 46L which is the larger version one of that 23L one. I had one of these 46L Edge, quite a fiddly tank to maintain but once you get hang of it, its quite good.

The 46L is far to large for my desk and I don't want to buy more furniture!

Fair enough! ;)

I have managed to maintain some of the larger biorbs with medium success. But I can say with certainty that I would take a standard 5 gallon over any of the biorb range any day. I'm not sure how shrimp would go but I would be wary that they could get stuck to the filter without due care.
