Does anyone have personal experience with the smaller loaches? I am especially looking for comments about Yunnanilus sp. 'rosy' and Y. cruciatus, but also about any other species which is under 5cm when adult.
For what tank? And what tank mates were you thinking of?Does anyone have personal experience with the smaller loaches? I am especially looking for comments about Yunnanilus sp. 'rosy' and Y. cruciatus, but also about any other species which is under 5cm when adult.
Thanks for the suggestion, but they're too large for what I was thinking.. the other two species I am looking at are 30mm and 35mm, respectively, when adult, so half the length of the dwarf chainsLook into Yasuhikotaki sidthimunki aka dwarf chain loach. They are small, very active at at all levels of a tank and they eat tiny snails
A small tank (2ft or so), with small and peaceful mid-water schooling Cyprinidae tank mates (probably Boraras or Danio species, maxing out at 30mm). Just working on some ideas here as I want to keep it an Asian themed stock. I have looked at Erethistes jerdoni as an alternative to loaches, but would really like something which will sift through sand. Also I've never kept loaches in my own tanks before, so want to add them to my listFor what tank? I was wondering if anyone would pick up on that! My problem is that I want Boraras more and my LFS has three species in right now, but on the other hand, I prefer the idea of the fish coming from the same are.. it feels like the two species are playing tug-of-war inside my head! You might like the idea of combining a group of Celestial Pearl Danios with a group of Rosy Loaches, as these two species were found together in Myanmar.

My housemate used to keep khuli loaches in a tank that size, looked rather cruel to me. Thanks for the tip about rosies.. it put a spanner in the works, but was exactly what I was looking for! I knew they were schoolers, but didn't know if they would be too active I think I'm gonna have to settle for cats for the tank..A small tank (2ft or so), with small and peaceful mid-water schooling Cyprinidae tank mates (probably Boraras or Danio species, maxing out at 30mm). I have both Rosy Loaches and Y.cruciatus. They are definitely not like other loaches, 95% of the time, they are swimming in the upper part of the tank. Although small, I personally would not keep them in a 2 foot tank, because they are so active. ATM I have them in a 3 foot tank and they normallly school with my Rosy Danios (thats how active they are) Maybe the serpentine loaches would be better, say Khuli Loaches? I have those too and they do a good job of turning the sand
