Hi,

It really all depends on what sort of filter you want. An Internal filter, external canister filter, undergravel? I have Tetratec EX700 Canister filter which is really good and silent and that is rated for a 150Litre tank. Not too badly priced, you can pick them up on Ebay for around £70. I cleaned this the other day after around 4-5 weeks of use.

i have a tetratec ex1200 and an aqua-one cf1000.
they are both silent.
:good:

EDIT: spelling

I don't notice my eheim external classic, quiet as anything and was easy to set up, don't know about maintenance, I'm only starting out myself.

Only when it's clogged up, or the sponges are really covered in debris and muck. But make sure you only very gently squeeze them as not to disturb the beneficial bacteria built up inside - also, clean them in a bucket of water from the tank.

All my filters are noisy as, apart from my Hailea immersable filter - these are cheap and top notch.

Paul.

I do love it for it's massive output though
Pity, and mine is only a few months old - but makes so much noise, I can hear it in the next room :X
