I manage a 55gal Salt tank...

Question 1 - *but have a 12gal eclipse tank lying around set up for salt water that I want to start doing things with..
I want to go a little more towards like predatory , something that I cant normally do with my 55gal tank.
would a small fu manchu lion be out of the question, even if it had a protien skimmer?
What would you guys recommend?

Question 2- I am ordering 50 pounds of live cured rock for my 55gal.. I want to turn it into a reef tank..
I have a protien skimmer, canister filter, ro-filter I was thinking on getting a uv sterilizer and a osillating power head ?what other devices would you recommend? and please tell me why so I may
expand my knowledge..

Thank you to all that take the time to reply..

Oh and one more thing.. What type of affordable lighting would you reccomend for this 55gal reef aquarium?
and what type of substrate would you recommned for my 55? I have gravel in there now.. SHould I switch to sand.crushed coral?

thank you

Switch to Aragonite sand while you can, gravel and crushed coral are not suitable for marine setups. A suitable "affordable" lighting fixture would be a 4' long Power Compact (PC) fixture. It will somewhat limit you in what corals you can keep (no clams/nems/sps) but will still allow you for a wide range of softies and LPS.

Where do you want to put this lionfish?

I was wondering if a small fu manchu lion would be ok in that 12gal eclipse marine tank....?

thank you for all your suggestions..

No to the lionfish in 12G. SH

ok thanks maybe ill will use it for treating fish... or mating clowns..or does anyone else have any other suggestions on a species I could use this 12gal for..something I normally couldnt keep in my 55gal reef tank?

Thank you

If you wanted predatory, you probably should have done that with the 55, and not the 12g. LOL. A Fumanchu lion wouldnt do well in a 12g, way too small. Im stumped as to what predatory fish you could add, but theres certainly a few different biotopes you could create, separate from a reef. Rubble zone, Planted SW tank, Prop system, a specific coral tank....PistolShrimp / Gopby pair, Shrimp....

You could put a clown goby in there....mine THINKS she's a mean, predatory lionfish when she's "attacking" the flake food.....
