I have two Anubis plants in my tank planted in the gravel. They are not doing as well as I would have liked. Their leaves are small. Have I growen these in the gravel and am supposed to grow these on a piece of wood or decor?

I don't think they grow very fast, but they are sturdy!
I never am happy with tying them, though. Super glue in an aquarium weirds me out--I know they SAY it's safe, and I believe it is, but...😬
The ones I have are basically wedged somewhere in the piece of wood.
I even have one just kind of lodged between a rock and the side of the tank.

What other plants do you have?

Anubias are marsh plants that grow very slowly when underwater. the leaves usually get smaller and they don't grow fast.

If you want fast growing plants, look for Ambulia, Hygrophila polysperma and narrow Vallis.

Maybe plants that need low light. One of the types of recent plants I planted are getting what looks like cold stems and changing color like going grey. My hairdresser said that plants need to have a heater at the bottom of the tank. Not sure

Anubias plants have a rhizome, and that should not be under the gravel. The roots are OK in the gravel though. But laying the rhizome on top of the gravel means it can accidentally get covered so it is usual to grow anubias attached to decor.

Does that mean a heater under the gravel or a normal heater placed low down in the tank?

Most low light plants are plants that live on wood or ornaments

A heater under the gravel

I may be wrong, but I don't think many people with heavily planted tanks use under gravel heaters. Those who do will now post to say so :)
