I have had my neons for a few weeks now and I noticed that they hardly ever school. I look in the tank and they are usually scattered all over the tank following my other fish around! They even follow the cory cats! The only time I really see them all come together is at feeding time. Is this strange behavior or what?

No not really, my neons hang around the tank like a bunch of post pubecent teenagers, looking for the odd can to kick around or phone box to vandalise ;)
They do hang around in a bunch (cant really call it shoaling) now and again, more by accident than design. If fish had jobs, they would all be on the dole :p

This is quite normal for neons once they have settled in. They only school tight when they feel in danger, safety in numbers!!
You may notice they band together when the tank lights go out or come on but once they feel relaxed, its all easy going in neon world...

Yah, if neons are spread out it means they feel safe. So, take it as a good sign that your neons are happy. ;)

Hmmmm.... Well I guess I am happy that they seem to be doing well. I just wish that they didn't keep disappearing. Since I have bought them they seem to slowly die off and I don't find the bodies for days.
