Well I think I am going to set up another tank. I have an extra ten gallon that my girlfriend's little brother had been using for his lizard but he got a new lizard tank for christmas. So, after some begging I think my girlfriend is going to allow me to have another fish tank! Its either going to be another tank for my guppy breeding or an attempt at breeding cory cats. The only problem is that I still haven't been able to find out how to breed cory cats! Can any help me out? I tried asking in the breeding forum and no one ever responded!

Everything that I have heard (someone correct me if I am wrong!) says that you can't reuse a reptile tank for fish....that for some reason your fish won't survive. Don't take my word on it though....If I were you I would look it up and see. Good luck iwth the tank :fish:

I don't see why providing it's well cleaned. They are the same tanks.

For cory breeding all I know is that there should be 2 males to every female and a lower tempature and a idet of live food will help it along.

I am sure there is more to it that that though ;)

make sure you have 2 males to one female. Yes the males are a bit smaller and dont have the full looking belly. If you get juvenile fish it will be hard to tell the difference (at least for me it would be) then when you do a water change make sure you do it with slightly cooler water as that seems to trigger spawing. I wasnt trying to breed them in my community tank, but every water change seemed to "trigger" eggs on my window. the more I had the more they seemed to want to spawn. When i only had 2 cory's they wouldnt spawn to save a life, they seemed to spawn with as a group. But I wasnt trying to spawn them at the time and only had one cory off spring. He seemed to survive the power filters, egg eating, small fish eating and only had one to survive. He died about 2 months ago :-( but they are cool to watch breed. They look wild doing their dance LOL

There is a huge difference in an aquarium and a terrarium. A terrarium which is cheeper and used to house retiles ect. is not built to hold water, where as an aquarium obviously is. Many times you can't tell the two apart. If this is in fact an aquarium then give it a good cleaning and you will be set. If it is a terrarium don't even bother. It will not hold water for a long period of time, and the last thing you want to have happen is your beloved fish out in the floor because this tank did not hold up. :)

Before you put any fish in there, make sure you do in fact have an aquarium. :)
Its an aquarium. I have had it for probably ten years. It used to be my older brother's tank when we were kids. Because he got a ten gallon I wanted to get a tank too which started me out in the whole fish keeping hobby! So its definately an aquarium.

Thanks for the link breezer40, I couldn't find any good sites when I tried to do a search. And thanks to rollntider and Cheese Specialist for info on cory breeding. I have bronze cories in my 20 gallon and some albino bronze cories in my 55 gallon. None of them have tried spawning even with cold water changes. (I have to do cold water changes because my room in the basement doesn't have hot water). I wonder if they are too young?

You tell female cories from males by a bulge behind their pectoral fins right? At least I think I read that somewhere.

and this appears to be a male. they only grow to an inch in length so this may not be the best to go on....but I love this little fella's . I will probably have to order these guys online to get some. I will prolly order from 2 different places to get a a line I dont have to worry about to much inbreeding.
