This was first noticed nearly a week ago. I have been treating with melafix and stepped up water changes. I have been reluctant to dose with anything stronger since she appears to be in the best of health: eats heartily, interacts happily with the others, has a fine sheen to her body. This is why I did not realise she still had the patch, though perhaps a little smaller. I only discovered it in the first place because I was trying to photograph her.
So it just feels hard to believe that she is suffering from acute septicaemia- all the literature I have read mentions listnessness and lack of appetite: I would have thought she would be developing some signs of illness by now.

What do you reckon I should do:

isolate and treat her with Pimafix (this would involve risk stressing her out and overstocking my other fish with those currently in the hospital tank)

isolate and treat with Interpet Anti-bacterial medicine (I have both at home)

treat entire tank with Pimafix

treat entire tank with Interpet anti-bacterial

just carry on keeping water clean+ maybe adding more melafix

Hi dwarfgourami :)

I think that I would isolate the fish and treat it with the Interpet medicine. When a cory gets sick it's almost always a bacterial problem of some sort, and since the milder MelaFix isn't working (which it should be by now if it's going to) it's time to move up to something stronger.

As much as I hate to isolate a cory, there's no use treating a tankful of fish unless you suspect they might be at risk too. If not, it might be that this cory is older or just has a weaker immune system. Sometimes this kind of thing just seems to happen with no apparent cause, but usually when reddening appears, it has gotten to the point of being serious.

I hope he recovers for you.

Thanks a lot. Will do.

I wonder what's caused it. She is not old; I bought her as a juvenile 11 months ago. I have tried very hard to keep the environment good, too- 25 % water change at least once a week, and the tank is not overstocked (19 gals- 4 cories, 1 male guppy, 4 juvenile platies). Noone has been added to the tank for the last 4 months, and even then only home-grown fish.

Just a brief update. Finished the Interpet treatment on Sunday. As I needed my hospital tank for others, I ended up treating the whole tank- not ideal, of course, but they've had very little medication in their lives, so probably does not do them too much harm.
She still has a slight red patch, but it hasn't grown, got less I think (though it's hard to get a good view) and no red anywhere else on her body. She is still looking healthy, socialising, eating like a pig. Fins in good condition, movements look confident and assured. The only sign of being slightly under the weather I have seen on her was when her mates spawned and the males invited her to join- she went on eating but did not join in. Did not appear stressed or worried though, just more interested in the daphnia.
Cant' help thinking if it was septicaemia, it should be affecting her general wellbeing after two weeks of it.
So I'm not quite sure where I go from here. What do you reckon? Pimafix- or leave it a few days?
