I hope to get my LR soon and start cycling my tank. I'm hoping to one day maybe put a small eel in the tank after its matured. Since I'm doing this do I need to make caves and labrynths in the heart of the rock? do I have to only do it by the powerheads so they can hopefully keep some flow in through there?

Live rock benefits from as much flow over it as ossible. If you can, try and get flow all over the tank and rock, this will make your filtration more efficient.

to answer your question about caves and labrinths, in my experience with
eels they prefer to be in between the substrate and rock, so as long as
you have rocks that "arch" at the bottom(not flush against substrate),
that should be fine.--I also had one that liked a piece of pvc piping.
