its brown with lighter brown stripes and black spots.

you can see the bottom of my mickey mouse platy. so you can see the size of it. the platy is about roughly 2"

Yep, but we'll need a better piccie ;)

Edited to add - just had a fiddle about with it in Photoshop, and I'd say it was a common too but I'm not 100% sure as the pic's come out rather blurry when I zoomed in. So yes, it probably should be bigger (although you dont say what size it is roughly?), but being in a 30g tank could explain that - what are the tank dimensions (I'm useless at guessing by gallonage)? He'd need something around 4' x 18" x 18" preferably bigger. ;)

Here is your photo as well enhanced as my photo editor will do. He does look like a common (liposarcus pardalis) to me, but it's very hard to say for definite without a clearer picture. What throws me off is how small he is considering how long you've had him. How's your water? What's he eating?

I didn't think the plec was 2", but he is small considering. And he hasn't grown in a year. So that throws me off a bit unless there's a reason for it (eg. poor diet, poor water).

it lookes maby like a L021 or a L023 both are commons. yey im from bett. also pm'd ya.
