hello,

i just bought three Corydoras leucomelas which are now in my 10 gallon quarantine tank.

In two weeks i will add them to my 44 gallon and get an additional 3 or four more cories for the 10 gal (and eventually the 44 gal).

I want to get a different type of cory, like the bronze, but i hear cories do better with cories of the same type.

Is there a variation i could get that will school with the ones i have?

thanks in advance, off to work ill be back on later!

thanks for your help.

Hi kcalbat,

Your corys will be fine with two groups of three or more each. They will get along even if they don't always play actively together, so what you are considering is more a question of how much fun they will have rather than wondering if they will fight among themselves. This they will not do.

When selecting corys to share the same tank with other corys it's a good idea to check that their water temperature requirements are about the same. I also find that if they are of a similar size when they are mature they will tend to play more together than if there is a big difference between them.

Bronze corys are C. aeneus and will get along well with any other corys with similar water requirements. They are also frequently found in an albino variation which is ideal if you would like to keep some corys that will play together in a large group. They can even be successfully bred together with no problems since they are the same species. :D

So different species of cories have different water temp. requirements?

Well Cories came from different part of South America and water temperature, but most likely very close but some of them like cold temperature and other may a little warmer.

In general should not be any problem to keep Cories different species together, if you set the temperature in the range. All information you can find at website.
