I've decided I am definetely getting some DP's. Ive got a 20 gallon that they'll go in, so im thinking 3, maybe 4? What do you think?

Ive done research and I know about the care and the agression but was just wondering if anyone has had success with any tankmates. Ideally I would love some neon tetras with them. I know its probably a no no but just wanted to know if anyone has experience of this working? or any other tankmates?

ps I know ottos should work, ive already got some for that tank when the time comes, TIA

For me, nothing worked, even oto's were regularly bitten in the end.

Don't be fooled by a DP who pretends to be all placid and sociable to start with. He/she'll bite in the end !

Thanks for the reply. See Ive read this, even sometimes they can be peaceful until the mature and then their aggression increases. I was just curious to wether anyone has had success with tank mates. Im starting to think a no no fullstop now, but Im still curious to everyones fews and experiences.

4 in a 20G should be fine. With regards to tank mates, not that I've tried many anyway, the only things I keep with mine are shrimps. That's not to say there aren't casualties. They do attack and eat shrimps but cherries breed fast. My Amano shrimps have been fine with them due to the shrimps' relative large size and also puffs being well fed.

The other fish I've kept with my DPs before (mind, that was when I first bought them without research few years ago) include zebra danios, dwarf corys, and mollies. None escaped the puffer nip . All rehomed off course. I find DPs get quite irritated by the fast moving or wiggly fish. Well, slow moving fish has little chance to stay calm to say the least.
