would i be able to keep a drawf puffer just one in this fish tank the dimentions are 40x20x24.8cm and ive got told its 3.4 gallons

thanks in advance vanessa

If it has a filter, heater and light then it's possible, but not ideal. Without the life support, then no.

Puffers require very clean and mature water such as only a decent filter can provide.

by decent filter u mean one of those external ones  or something along those lines

I mean any filter with mechanical and biological elements. Doesn't matter if it's internal or external, although external would be better so that it doesn't take up any of the already very restricted space.

Really you shouldn't consider keeping a Dwarf puffer in a anything less than a fully cycled five gallon or preferably 10 gallon.

If I'm doing my maths correct here, it's 3.4 UK Gallons ... which is pretty much equal to 5 US Gallons

40 x 20 x 24.8 = 19840 ... so 19.8 litres
1 US Gallon = 3.7854118 liters

19.8 : 3.7854118 = 5.230 US Gallons

--Edit--

Forgot to mention that the reason I pointed out it was 5G is because the min. for dwarf puffers really is a 5G, which is what you've got :)

i think im going to reconsider and look for a 10 gallon ish then as i dont want the fish to be upset in its living conditions

thanks for the help vanessa

p.s sorry about the questions its just that i really really want one of these :*)

The whole set up should run you about 40 dollars or so for a good filter and heater, An american 10 gallon tank as is with nothing else is 8 dollars, I dont know the dollars to pounds conversion.. Good luck with the fish would be curious to see how it turns out.

its my experience that tank set-ups that cost X dollars in the US tend to cost X pounds in the UK. you're probably looking at ~50 quid for a brand-new 8UKg setup.
