What now?

I finished cycling my 30 gallon over a month back and added four otos. That made only eight fish in the whole tank. They were doing fine until this week, when one oto disappeared and another got very sick and then died. I've been checking levels and all that and other than a small nitrite spike which is fixed now, everything is fine. Out of my two otos left, one was dead in the tank this morning.

Why?

Ugh.

our tank has been up and running for about 1 year... and we can only just manage to keep otos alive now. from our experence they are very delicate fish.

try to find a LFS that know how long its had its stock... 6 weeks or more for otos as they sometimes use 'poisons' to slow the fish when they a caught... if they got too higher dose they die sometime later.

now trying to keep those darn neons alive thats a chalenge!

with my studying in the amount of neons i buy, I've noticed that 1-6 will live a full life ina comunity tank with more than just the trtra species in it.

...I don't think oto's are hard to look after -_-
All I did was buy them from my lfs place them in the aquarium (still in the plastic bag) for 10min with all the lights off so everything was dark. Then let them out (still dark) feed my other fishes so that they wouldn't annoy the new fishes and that was it!
...mabye it's all those water changes I do  ...

I have never kept neons, only cardinal tetra... and they were easy too...
