a few months ago i bought 2 balas for my 80g, thye were about 2.5" long and very healthy looking fish.

about a week later i decided to get two more but the lfs only had smaller ones about 2" so i got them.

all was well for about three weeks then got up one morning and one of the littlies had gone, still a mystery, he just vanished, only thing i can think is somehow he jumped out and the cat had him :(

about two weeks later i noticed the other small one wasn't looking too good, getting a bit thin and the other two wouldn't let him join them, they were even quite aggressive.

in the end i had to take him out and put him in my 45g to fatten him up (i seriously didn't think he'd make it).

well the good news is he's now doing really well and is very active and back to normal weight.

i don't want to leave him in the 45g but am concerned about putting him back with the other bigger guys.

any suggestions??

I had some small 2" balas in with my torpdo barbs. Usually Balas are know for having vorcacious appetites, but i think mine were being out competed for food and started to waste away i.e looking pretty thin.

Perhaps that is what is happenig with yours? do you observe them getting enough food ant feeding time?
