I know Bettas do not NEED filters or air pumps as they are surface breathers and you do 100% water changes on a weekly basis. HOWEVER, I have 'small world' filters in all of m 15 litre betta tanks (don't ask me how many gallons that is) and they are run by air pumps. I have attached valves to them so the bubbles that are produced are at a minimal amount.
Right now onto the problem.......... I have just moved my Betta tanks to a new unit and after fiddling with the cables for the heaters I started on the air pumps that run the filters.
When they were in their old place I could put the actual pumps on the window sill and this created little noise or vibration near the tanks......however in their new place this is not possible. The pumps I have are supposed to be minor vibration and sound etc but are a nightmare. I put them next to the tanks and they vibrated their way to the tanks and started vibrating against them and thus scaring the fish. Next.....on the off chance I tried on top of the tanks, nightmare...no chance. Then I tried them on a shelf near by but they vibrated so much they fell off the shelf and were noisy there too. Then I tried to blue-tack them to the shelf and the wall but that didn't work as they were too noisy and still managed to vibrate themselves loose!
This is REALLY annoying! Any ideas on how to reduce the noise and the vibration? I have two running three tanks as one has a double valve thing that I have added near the non-return valve I have added to both.
Or the other option is I don't connect the pumps and hope that the filter will still store the bacteria and still work to some extent. Do you think this might work![???? ???? ????](/images/smilies/ipb/sad2.gif)
The filter is very similar to these......
Any help or advice would be greatly needed and appreciated. At the moment they are unplugged as I had stressed the fish out enough as it was without fiddling anymore and making any more noise.
