Hi All,
Fred Betta was living in our 30 gal community tank, doing well, really enjoying it. On occasion, the angels (1 in particular) would try to nip his caudal fin, but he usually got the upperhand and would flare and posture until the angels backed off. It was not a constant thing (the angels trying to nip him), just every so often. Fred definitely was the head honcho, especially ever since I saw him headbutt into the side of one the angels. :flex: They do keep their distance now most of the time...

Oops, got off on a tangent there... Anyway, I noticed a few days ago, Fred did have a small rip in his dorsal fin, then a day later, his caudal fin. Don't know if it's from the angels or all the vigorous swimming he does... So, I put him in a 2.5 gal quarintine tank with Melafix to help his fin or in case it's fin rot...

Thing is, he seems depressed. He won't eat (hasn't in 2 days) and I've been feeding him the same food I give him in the big tank... In the big tank, he was a voracioius eater. What are y'all's thoughts? I was thinking of just keeping him in the 2.5 gal permanently now, but now wondering if after a week of treatment, should he go back in the big tank (i.e. will he be happier there?). He's my first fish  , so I want to do what's best by him... Thanks!

Oh, parameters in the big tank are all good (NH3 = 0, NO2 = <0.3, ph 7.2, temp 76F).

What are test results in his tank in nitrites, nitrate, and ph, how many fish do you have in your main tank as you have a slight reading of 03 on your nitrites.

Don't know what his 2.5 gal tank readings are... Will check when I get home. I do know tank is about 77 degrees...

The big tank only has 4 corys (all less than 2"), 2 angels fish (2" each), 1 USD cat (still small) and 1 Golden Nugget plec (about 2 1/2" will get a new home when bigger)...

Just checked his 2.5 gal home and the 30 gal that he was living in, and here are the readings:

NitrIte 0, NitrAte 0, Ammonia 0, Hardness 120 (moderate), Alkalinity 0

pH for 2.5 gal is 7
pH for 30 gal is 7.2

He still won't eat, didn't eat dinner tonight, but is active, swimming etc. I'm wondering if he's "homesick" for the big tank... He keeps hanging out at the end of the small tank nearest the big tank...

yea keeping bettas with angel fish, gouramis, or other bettas is a very bad idea, he sounds like hes plenty capeable to fend them off but u never know, maybe one day the angel fish will get a lucky shot in. its god that u have removed him. he may be a bit slow because his tank size has been downsized quite a bit and with the meds ur putting in its probably a littel stressful, just keep an eye on him and try feeding him evry once in a while, he'll eat soon enogh, give him time.
