I've been thinking... Would it be a good idea to put a mirror in with my male Betta so he can take some anger out etc, or you rekon it would just anger him and make him more violent to me other fish?

by put a mirror in with him do you mean have one permanantly inside the tank with him? i would say no, as it seems like constantly seeing it would stress him out. INstead just hold the mirror up to the tank so he can see it every now and then, thats what i do.

i have a blue mirror backing as the background of my tank, and my betta spent the first day just flaring at it, but then he just gave up on it

yeah i keep all my betta containers next to each other and the boys will flare like crazy for the first few days, adn then eventually just stop. i think they get a litlte desensitized to it after a while. But then again i have a pair that's been next to each other for weeks and they are still flaring :D

Why do you want him to flare all the time? It's stressful for the fish and does him no good at all.

Flaring all the time isn't good, but occasionally it seems like they enjoy it. Perks my guys up if they get a little "flair time" every couple of days. I've also heard that occasional flaring is good for their digestion, but I'm not sure about that one - can't even remember where I read it! :dunno:

Bettas that flare all the time don't live as long as bettas that don't do it as much. It's like scaring folks, it's not always good on the heart, but a little isn't bad either (sometimes it's exhilirating).

I think two bettas next to eachother are better, that way they can flare and go about their business as they wish.
