any1 got any expierience with angels? im thinking of starting a tank up for them, need to know if a 25 gallon would be enough? if so how much angels can i have in there, wat species grow the biggest and smallest, o and wat species are good with fry and do not eat them? or the closet to being good with fry and only eat a few?

A 25 gallon really is not a big enough tank to try and breed angelfish. You will only be able to fit about 2 in there. They get to be large, so that doesn't give them much room to swim. I have read that to breed angelfish you'll need to buy about 5 of them, see which pairs off and that is how you have your breeding pair. If you do this, then just make sure you can remove the fry immediately so they can't eat them and put the fry in another tank. But if you put them in a bigger tank, you could have other fish with them as well.

I wouldn't put any angels in a tank that size. Maybe you could go for koi angels (not as big body size) to have a smaller tank but it still has to be pretty big.

The tank must be at least 18" tall as well. The best way, as tmlhaus said, is to buy a group of young angels and allow them to pair off naturally. There are not sexible until they are breeding.

When they are breeding, you'll need to have a big tank to allow the other fish to stay far enough away from the spawning angels to keep safe.

soo all angels grow huge? a 42 gallon is gonna take up alot of space, then again weve been wanting to get rid of this pool table in the other room, suppose it could go there any1 know how much a 42 gallon cost in aus dollers?

I don't know, it depends on your local area really. You should go for second hand if possible as that will save on expense.

Yes, angels grow large. My adult black angel is 6" across and at least that up. Koi angels grow slightly smaller but I don't think it would make any difference to the tank size. Also, when you buy angels you don't know what size they are going to get.

well how much did ur tank cost, the one your in, i just want a guestiment and then if im still interested after that, i will have a look around to see if i can find anything cheaper, :) i could handle 300$ aus would it be around that? i kno this sounds lazy, not checking yet but i just wanna know how much you guys think it should be soo i dont get scamed from my lfs, which i doubt cause his tanks are usualy pretty cheap, e.g u can get a 15 gal there for about 50$ so i think a 42 might be about 150$ but i will see wat u guys say, on top of that there will be a heater, light, gravel, filter... o yeah wat filters do these guys need, like a powerful one or a soft one?
thnx all help is very much aprecitated :)

Hi LynX,this is my advise to you..............If you have 'bout $300 US dollars to spare.Go to Walmart, check the pets area, look at the fish tanks, and realize that the prices are way cheaper than any LFS could offer.
Now,their tanks come in the shape of sets and they often include...filter,lighting,net,food and some other stuff.I bought mine two years ago,a 55 gallon and at the time it went for 80 bucks.I checked a few months back, and the price still lower than $100.
So you know.......this is my 55 gallon, with the original lighting.Thats why it looks dark; It's been changed since.

And this a picture of my overpopulated tank.Don't worry only five remain, the other ones went to my cousin's.

Oops,I thought you were in the USA.Sorry.Well,it doesn't matter, get it as cheap as you can, even used from a garage sale or something,it doesnt matter as long as it isn't leaking or anything.Take your time, and buy wisely.

Seems to be some misconception.

A 25g is most certainly large enough to keep angels. Most commerical and hobbiest breeders breed them in 20 highs, 15g, or 10g tanks! Infact, I know a guy here locally who onced riased angelfish commerically. ALL of his angels were kept and spawned in 10g tanks.

In a 25g tank, for display purposes and not strict breeding I would keep 2-3 angels. You should be fine with that ammount unless 2 of them decide to pair up and kill the odd man out. It can happen.
