Ok long story! I have 6 angels I got from a hobby breeder (silver x marble ) approx 4 months ago. They get what is seems, from time to time, major fin rot, but not affecting the fins or tail? I have treated them with all sorts of different meds (antibacterial and parasitic) the water has been tested and tested, but this what I can only discribe as Cobwebbing keeps appearing, but only on these 6 angel fish none of the other fish in the tank are affected. Now today they have all been fine for well over a week no sign of it, but I needed to move them to another tank. So I bagged all 6 moved them to the other tank all were completely clear of this cobwebbing, but after 45 mins of aclimatising to the new tank in the bag all 6 looked like they had swam through a cobwebs and were covered in it? After an hour of being in the new tank the majority has just dropped off and I have netted the "cobwebs" its just like white slime? I have never seen this before and it hasnt affected any other fish in the tank and it leaves no visible marks on the body or fins of the angels.

2 hours after being in the new tank there are still slight trails of cobwebbing. I had noticed tiny air bubbles attached to the slime coat.

I switched off the airpump about half an hour ago just leaving the filter agitating the water slightly and its now all completly gone?

I am wondering if it is all pure stress as in the main tank my 2 boys are often against the tank and jumping around the front room or maybe something to do with too many air bubbles in the water?. I have been on the verge of euthanising these fish now for a couple of weeks as no one wants them because of this problem. They all eat fine and generally look healthy with bright vivid colouration to their black stipes. (see classified section for a picture of them)

sounds a bit like Velvet, (oodinum) This is often described as the fish covered in dust or has swam through cobwebs, It is a stress related disease (somewhat similar to whitespot) and should be easily treated with any parasite med. It is best treat for about 14 days to make sure the fish are completely cured

Thanks Davo, I have treated them with Sterazine, melafix primafix and Esha 2000. Trouble is there are no signs of flicking or rubbing, no fin clamping or any of the usual signs and all the other fish in the tank are clear and Velvet is contagious? Its the speed it comes and goes that is baffling me. Straight after a water change the are covered, the next day its all gone and usually does not appear again till the next water change or if I have been messing around with the tank or if the boys have been playing too near the tank. I am hoping now they are in a seperate tank in the kitchen away from the kids they might just be ok?
