What's the minumum size of tank i would need for a couple of angel fish, and what would go well with them. I am thinking of gettting a 55 gallon tank.

A 55 gallon tank would be fine. Try and get one around 18 inches high if you can as they are very deep bodied fish (48x12x18) You can keep them with any peaceful fish that arent too small to be eaten, so no neon tetras or the like. also avoid fin nippers such as tiger barbs and serpas.

Whats the smallest schooling fish i could put in with them?

My angelfish (not even close to fully grown) have taken down two full grown hatchetfish, and a guppy. BUT i think it could depend on the individual fish.

lol the actual fish won't get that big, but even at 7" from top to bottom (as the ones where I last worked were) it's nice for the fish to be able to move vertically as well as horizontally! Maybe 18" is a little exessive but as the price is not that much higher and the lighting requirements are not realy much more it seems a little silly to go for something 12" tall when a taller tank can only be of benifit.
