I will be moving in a few months and I was thinking about taking the opportunity to consolidate a couple tanks into one larger one. I absolutely cannot give up my female bettas and I love my angelfish, so I was wondering if they might be okay together. It would be a large tank- I'm thinking of a 55 gallon tall (36" x 15" x 24") with lots of driftwood and plants.

Please note that these are FEMALE bettas.

Has anyone tried this? What happened? Do you think it would be a good idea to move my angelfish in with the female bettas now and see what happens, while I can still move him back to his regular tank at the first sign of trouble? The angel is still small, so would this test even give a good indication of how they will get along when he's full size?

Oh, and it's a large group of 12-15 female bettas (it's been a while since I last counted, lol) if that makes any difference. And one angel.

Sorry, wouldn't have a clue? I know there are a few threads about males with angels but not females. I'm sure someone has knowledge though. :good:

when i had all my girls in my 90gal they were in with 3 hoooge angel fish and i never had any trouble. They would swin past each other with no regard for on another. So from my experience, yes, it can be done

Trying them now would be a fab idea i think, as you say at least you can then see what happens before it is a permanent thing.

Good luck and let us know what happens.

oh and P.S do a large water change before you add the Angel as this will distract you girls a lil bit

I need to do a water change anyway... and even vacuum under the rocks. This might just be the first time I've actually tried to perturb my fish... lol.

I put the angelfish in... forgot to even do the water change first... and they all seem to be just fine. The bettas were curious about the angel at first but too intimidated by his larger size to bother him, and now they're just ignoring him. He's just been minding his own business the whole time. Um, right now he's trying to eat the roots of a "baby" java fern growing off a larger leaf. Goofy fish.

This could be me asking the OP, I have a 15 gal with 12-15 females, driftwood and plants too, and I want to add angels! I decided to go for baby angels that would be around same size so shouldn't be any squabbling [she says]

Are you planning to move the angels later? I've read that they're supposed to be in a tank at least 29 gallons and 18 inches tall. For a group I'd imagine you would need a pretty good sized tank by the time they were full grown.

Christ I have a 55 gallon not a 15, how the heck did that happen lol, so no won't be moving them at all cos I don't have a 15 gallon tank

I have mine with two medium sized angels in a 32 UK Gall tank and they get along fine! They just ignore each other apart from when there is betta biogold about!

you might have some problems with the females being a bit nippy on the fins of the angel... and the angel might try to snack on the females once it reaches full size.......

keep an eye on it. if it works it works. and you have a proper tank if you are keeping em in a 55 gallon! they should all have plenty of room to sort out any problems. people always try to keep angelfish in such small tanks w/o researching.

edit:
you have any pics?!? i'd love to see the tank and the angel w/ the bettas.

I have a 29 gallon with 1 angelfish, 1 female betta, 2 female mollies and 1 raphael (new)---there hasn't been any problems with any aggression, however the angelfish has alot more to grow so maybe with a full grown angelfish there might be a problem.
