Well, as the title says I have an angelfish which has red threadlike camallanus worms protruding from it's anus. It has been quarantined in a 10G for over a month. None of the fish in my community tank the angel used to be in have shown any symptoms. The angel has had the visible threadlike red wormd for close to two months and otherwise seems healthy.

I finally managed to get ahold of levamisole hydrochloride (Tramisol), but I don't know how much to dose. I have one oblet intended as a cattle dewormer. I'm unsure of the total weight, the the caplet contains 2.19G levamisole hydrochloride. All the info I have found on it is here below:

Brand Name: Tramisol Cattle Dewormer
Source: Ayerst Veterinary Laboratories
Active Ingredient: Levamisole Hydrochloride
Comments: Cattle, TAB(2.19g)ORL
Date: 1998-02-04
DIN: 02194392
Therapeutic Class.: Anthelmintic

I only have the one oblet, but now that I know the name it is sold under here (Tramisol) and where to get it, I can easily obtain more if needed.

Any help with how much to use to dose my 10G with the angel would be greatly appreciated. I wanted to try to email Charles H Harrison for help on this since he seems to be the expert on treating camallanus worms, but haven't been able to find any contact info for him.

My research says that 5 grams will treat 100 US gallons if water. You said it was in tablet form, right? Take a cup of your tank water, mix a tiny pinch of the chemical with the tank water in the cup, then pour the solution in the tank. The article says that it's hard to overdose with this stuff, so I wouldn't be too worried, just don't put all of it in. Do a 100% waterchange the next day, make sure to vacuum the gravel and all to get all the offspring of the worms. You should only need one dose. The gentleman that wrote the article I read netted his afflicted fish to examine her the next day, and said that the (dead) worms were falling into the net themselves. Good luck. I'm sorry I couldn't be much more help...I've never been good with chemistry(yet I've managed to keep my fish alive, somehow..lol)

Good luck.

Thanks for the input! I emailed Charles Harrison and he promptly replied back. He said the Tramisol isn't very water soluble and quite messy. He's looking into the cost of getting some ofthe soluble form to me. Someone else on this forum referred to him before. He's very helpful!

Late update for anyone interested. I bought a 5g bag of the levamisole HCl (arrived within days) from Charles Harrison and dosed as posted in his article here. Within a minute I could see the worms in discomfort. Within 36 hours, most the worms had fallen out. I then did a 100% water change. Within a couple more days all the worms had fallen out and died. The angel is still alive and relatively healthy with no more worms. The only problem now is the white grwoth on it's fin which has been there for 4 months or more.
