are angel fish happier when there is another angel fish in the tank?
i bought two angel fish at the same time and they both loved each other, would go everywhere together. it was cute.
but about 2 months ago one of them died so now i only have one. i have alot of other fish in the tank but the angel fish i have now seems to be a bit lonely, he always hangs out near the filter by himself and sits still alot of the time.
i was going to get another angel fish so he had a friend but he is pretty big and every shop i go to only has baby angels and im worried he might attack the baby one.
should i just get another angel even if its a baby?

You could try another, but there is always a chance he wont take to it, so be prepared to take the new angel back again.

I think angels form monogamous pairs ie. life partner. So it's probably depressed. I had a pair that formed and when one died it took the other a while to recover (didn't eat for a while and shy). I didn't buy another angel for it even after it got some character back. You could try as above, but if the size difference is as you said, it might not be a good idea.

You could try adding a different species of fish with character to see if the angel starts interacting normally again, then when it has, try another angel. I'd recommend one keyhole cichlid as the interspecies tankmate.

I was in the same situation a while ago, and bought another Angel Fish after one had died. It was a complete nightmare at first. The older Angel Fish attacked the new one very badly. I had to take the older Angel out of the tank and rearrange the decor, I had to do his a couple of times, before the older Angel accepted the new one, now they are best of friends, but if you do get a new fish, it may be that you have to re-home the new one as the old one may never accept a new friend, but then it could be all fine as soon as you enter the new fish. The only way you would find out would be to get one and see.
