Hi everyone,

Hope some Angel fish lovers could shed some light on what I could do, I have an established tank with a female Angel and just introduced a mature male of the same colouring as my girl has been laying eggs fortnightly for over 2 years and she gets depressed afterwards, so on Friday afternoon I bought the boy for her.

Sunday night I see her cleaning the swords and he was helping too. Following morning hundreds of eggs and 2 guarding parents!!
This morning being day 3, there are wriggling little angels. Alot of the eggs were fluffy and they actually fell off the sword leaf to the bottom and the boy picked through, put the little ones in his mouth and put them on the leaf. Miss angel helped also.

My probelm is I haven't done my homework for this. I was expecting awhile for him to settle in and wondered if anthing would happen at all, as she may not like him. Seems she thought he was alright! Both of the Angels have damaged mouths as they keep mouthing each other? I don't know what you call it.

I'm concerned about the little ones. Will they die now as I have no food for them. The pet store said come back in a month and we will discuss the breeding and mentioned baby brine shrimp, ( I have to hatch them I beleive?) but this has happened so fast, I wasn't ready.

Will they survive without outside feeding?

Thanks very much, hope someone can help.

Cheers Lisa

Hiya,

Congrats on the wrigglers! its a great feeling when it happens for the first time. I was caught out like yourself with some angel fry and didnt have any food for them. I tried grinding up some flake. This wasnt ideal but they were taking some of it. I also had amazon frobit plant on the surface of my tank and the fry were nibbling at the stalks and crud that was attatched to the stalks. They lasted over a week and looked to be growing. Then my wife turned my tank light back on and the other angels dived in and ate all the fry!! I was gutted. I had just bought the trap to move them to and was going to do it when i got home from work... She felt so guilty. lol

It will take the fry another few days before they are free swimming so you could try to get some daphnia growing or some live food to give to them.

Tolak is the angel man and has given me some great advice. Im sure he will post shortly for you or you could private message him.

The good fact is that even if they dont make it this time you can get yourself prepared for next time as you know they are going to spawn and have fry again.

Goodluck with the breeding!!

The other thing here, and it may sound brutal, but if they don't survive there will always be more. Maybe let this batch go and if you really want to raise fry you can prepare for it the next time. Make sure you want to raise fry as you will then have to find homes for them all as well and this can be difficult.
