Hey, was thinking about getting an anenome for my two true perc clowns. I hear they're really hard to keep, and that when they die they release toxins that can kill everything!

Is it worth getting one? I'd love to see my clowns host it.

What do you guys think?? I was looking at a bubble tip anenome.

There is a good general guide on anemones here. :)

If you just want a host for your clownfish, there are a few 'anemone look-a-likes' that your clown will love, such as Torch Corals and Hammer corals. They are much easier to take care of than anemones.

:)

mine are even simpler and like anthelia

I've only got 2x t5 bulbs. Will a green torch or hammerhead survive?

Nemo, your clowns look amazing! I hope my clowns grow up like tht and host something!

I bought a green torch coral and a small frag of hammerhead. All are doing really well, but clowns haven't hosted yet. Any tricks that you know of to convince them??

No tricks, just have to wait. Had my coral for many months before they decided they liked it. I also know people with clowns whom decided to never host anything. Prior to the coral, mine hosted a heater for a while. When I got a sump and moved the heater there, a couple months later the clowns decided to move home. I had the coral in the same corner the heater used to be in, perhaps had something to do with them picking it?

My clownfish dug a ditch in the back/corner of the tank, and he used to bring about half of his food back there. He doesn't bring any food back there anymore, but he still keeps the ditch maintained.

How cool. My clowns are very funny but they haven't done anything like that. They sleep at the top of the tank about 5cm from the torch but they seem uninterested. I can't wait for them to host it. Anything really!! Even Sand.

I read they try nd feed the anenome's in the wild. Clever!

Anyway, thank you for the post and I'll let you know if they host !!
