I was just wondering if anyone could recommend a way to anchor my 60 gallon 48 long tank to minimize the risk of it toppling over in the event of an earthquake. I live in Southern California where earthquakes are supposed to happen.

I don't have a hood on my tank and the tank is on a wooden stand, if that's any help. I would prefer something inconspicuous, BUT FUNCTIONAL. I've read of earthquake stories on this forum where individuals had to hold their tanks during a quake to prevent it from falling.

I don't mind spending a LITTLE bit of extra money to ensure it's safe and SIGHTLY.

Thanks in advance.

All I can suggest is that you have a decent foam/styrene base under the tank and under the stands feet, and that if possible the tank stand is situated on stone. Then (unless the quake is severe) this should be able to absorb the vibrations.

Also, for home insurance purposes, would it not be a good idea to fit a waiting sump under the fish tank?

Hmmm im not sure is there anyway you could sacure it to a stone floor? Im glad we dont get earthquakes or massive house shattering storms over here :good:

the only thing i could think of would be a couple of steel padded brackets to attach it to the wall

Thanks guys.. I'll let you know what I come up with. I guess there really ISN'T anything pre-existing out there. There really should be, at least in California.
