I’m not having luck with my tanks lately. I have ten gallon tank with just a betta. I made the mistake of adding Monosolenium tenerum to my tank and it literally dispersed a ton of dead leaves in my tank and they are everywhere now. Any ideas on how to clean it up? It was looking so beautiful and now it looks awful. There’s just brown debris all over the white sand. There’s also a big chunk under the hide. I’m not sure if it’s alive or dead, it’s a mixture of brown and rich green and had some kind of clover looking think growing from it. My betta is loving laying on it lol. But I don’t want it to start decaying if it’s dead

Gravel vacuum will clean up the debris

Do you think they’ll release a lot of ammonia if they’re dead?
Not if totally brown and dead. I know dead brown oak leaves and India Almond leaves are ok to add to a tank to increase tannins and perhaps lower ph a bit. I haven't heard anything about the leaves you put in your tank.

Yes, use a gravel vacuum. Make sure to just hover over the surface of the sand. And yes, it will suck it up even if it’s chunks.

If anything, they will release nitrates when they break down. They may even cause a bacteria bloom, so I suggest you remove the, ASAP.

I used a net and gravel vac and got most of it up but there are still a few straggling pieces

Yes, keeping fish requires some maintenance work especially if you have plants. I also most wanted to close down my Discus as my schedules are too busy.

Yes I do weekly maintenance on my betta tanks and luckily they’re not too much work. It’s nice to know you helped a fish :)
