Well I was wondering I have heard from many breeders that BBS is the way to go. So I was wondering what would happend if I give betta fry an all BBS diet? I know theres Pro's and Con's.

Like one of the biggest Pro is that it makes bettas grow faster

Like one of the big Con's is that it causes Swim Bladder Disorder

But I was ready Waynes page and many others it says that as long as u decapate the eggs for BBS U wont get problems. So heres what Ive been thinking Im gonna start the first 2 days with microworms while I hatch the BBS then from there till they accept frozen foods. I have a few questions

Is an all BBS diet a Good Idea?

How do u decappatate BBS eggs?

Thanks.. :flex:

well i just replied to your other thread, but here is a link to decapping eggs. I know rolln decaps his eggs, and soemtimes feed the eggs to the fry. There are pros and cons to this as well.

pros being that you will end up with a high hatch rate, and of course even the eggs can be eaten by fry

cons being that it takes a long time to get it right (i tried a few times to decap them, but it took too long and i foun dthat if you left them in the chlorine for too long they'll die or something).

i personally tried decapping and gave up after a while. If you're having a large amount, and made all the bbs gather at once place, the movement from the bbs alone will serparate unhatched eggs.

I dont' think too much of anything is a good thing, variety is always nice :)

imo a mixture of mw and bbs for hte first 3 weeks or so is the best :) i put in some first bites if the culture/hatchery doesnt' go too well.

i feed my guppy fry bbs frozen and it mucks up the water real fast and make it smeel awful. if u use live bbs and their eaten b4 they die then it shouldn't be a problem.

Yes but the microworm culture isn that active no more..

None of them are active anymore

I got 4 running

1 is starting to get up

another one has a few worms

the other two I think are dead...

not many breeders will use an all bbs diet. we only use it for a period of 2 to 3 weeks after they have been fed vinegar eels and before feeding something more substantial like grindal worms as it doesn't give enough vital nutriants for growing fry. before we start breeding again in a couple of weeks we will have to aquire some more grindal worms as our last culture (which lasted 6 months) became too contaminated with mites and had to be thrown out. anyone can breed bettas if they get lucky, the trick is raising healthy, strong fry that actually grow into healthy, strong adults.

argh i cannot agree with you more, i found out that you guys wernet lying when you told me breeding was the easy part and raising was the hard part!

I use mw, bbs, adn then by 3 weeks (this batch) i started them on some frozen daphnia, and then frozen fodo from there on...since i don't have grindels or vinegar eels
