I just recently bought a 55 gal tank i set it all up sand, filters, rocks, plants wood and whatnot... I bought some Ammonia and I am jsut wondering how much would i add to a 55 gal tank and how much of a spike do i need?

thanks

At first, yes, you need to add enough ammonia to bring the tank level to 5 ppm.

But, to be honest, if you ask a question like that, you really, really should find a good explanation of the entire fishless cycling process and get to understand it before you start.

It can be as little as .5ppms to 5 ppms (people say over 5 that the bacteria can' t process it anymore, but I don't know) I bought 3 platys to cycle my 30 gallon. I loved them so much (first fish  ) that I did weekly water changes to keep the ammonia down, so nothing happened to them. the cycling took about 2 months, but my fish were OK.
But in your case with fish less cycling, I would say get it up to 5 ppms. to do this, make sure to measure out how much you add ( say 10 ml) let it sit for a while, and then measure the tanks ammonia concentration, seeing the results, you should be able to mathematically calculate how much more ammonia you need.
Hope I helped. :)
