I went down to my fish shop to get some plants and a thermometer for my new tank. I havent started cycling the tank but I wanted to get it up and ready before I started, I have had the filter on for 48 hours now. Anyway, I asked the guy in the fish store where I could get ammonia from or if he had any to kick off the fishless cycle. The guy said that I would be better off getting some hardy fish. I really dont want to do this! Can anyone recommend a source of ammonia, what do you all use, or should I be buying hardy fish?

I wouldn’t use fish for a couple of reasons, first it takes longer than using ammonia, second, its cheaper to buy ammonia, third, if your fish live through it you will end up with fish you don’t really want in your tank.

If you live in the UK there one called Max Power Ammonia thats good to use. You can find ammonia in old fashioned hardware shops, just make sure its un-perfumed and not got any additives(apart from water)
