I've been using Novaqua and Amquel for a long time, and have always used the same brand of test kits, the ones made by Aquarium pharmecuticals. I have the Master test kit, which measures everything except Nitrate, which I should probably get as well. It works for the most part very well, but since Aquarium Pharmecuticals uses Nessler reagents, when I use Amquel, the test tests positive for ammonia, especially after I've just put it in. So, in a new aquarium, I'm in a constant state of paranoia. I usually have to wait about a week before I test to get truely accurate results, which is no big deal in an established aquarium, but I've got a newly established 10gallon, so I'd like to find something that's more accurate. I'm not having any problems with the set up, I'm up with the water changes, to be safe, but I was wondering where I could find another ammonia test kit that was compatable with Amquel? I like the liquid tests, less messy, and perhaps more accurate, since I'm not getting my grubby fingers all over tablets, but since I haven't been in a forum for a while, I'm a bit out of the loop as far as the latest products that are available. Any suggestions, I'm in the US, but can purchase on line if need be.

Links would be awesome.

Take care

very interesting, I also use novaqua and the AP master test kits and never new this, and I too am in constant panic, Im surprised your kit doesnt come with a nitrate test as mine did

either way now I have to reonsider a few things. thanks for pointing this out, but I dont know what a good test kit would be if this is the problem

I think the reason you are seeing ammonia is that most products like Amquel and Ammo-Loc change ammonia into a non-toxic form called ammonium. That will still test positive on all test kits but isn't harmful to fish. I haven't used any of the "ammonia removing" products.
