Ammonia Source in UK

My lfs didn't do it either.

I eventually found some at the chemist within my local safeways

I got my 100% amonia at an old style chemists / hardware shop that sold all sorts of strange things.
If you can get to cheshire I could tell you where it is.

Boots apparently sell it but I couldnt find any there and the assistant said they had none.

I'm trying to find some too! My lfs hasn't got any.

I just got back from trying Boots. They told me that they don't stock it but their bigger stores do, in the household section. So thats my next attempt. Might have some fish to look at one day!

i'll have a look at the manufacturer and product name on my bottle tonight and post it up on monday.

You can then either ask for it by name or search on the net for it

I have never heard of lfs stocking it

I found some in a hardware shop, jsut a little private owned shop on the main street near my house, sells wood and tools and household type things

You are looking for stuff manufactured by Jeyes so if you phone them up they will probabyl tell you their nearest stockist.

I saw some Jeyes stuff today but left it because it didn't say 'pure' or '100%', and gave no indication of dilution.

I might go back and buy it tomorrow. Shall have to pour it into a clear container so I can do the shake test. Then add it to the tank slowly whilst taking readings to 5ppm, I believe...

I can't believe most lfs don't seem to stock it given the apparent demand. Don't lfs owners read the forums?

I bought some Jeyes stuff today...I'm pretty sure that it is pure as it passed the shake test (doesn't foam up when shaken), and I've used it now so it had better be!

Here is a pic of the front of the bottle (assuming it works - I've never posted pics on here before)...

The instructions given by most threads that I have read on the topic are the same as written under 'alternative recipe' here

My tank worked out to need 1.25ml of the above ammonia to give about 5 mg/l ammonia (allowing for less than 70 litres and rounding everything down - don't want an overdose).

But...I have only just started...so I can't confirm that this is the ammonia stuff you need to use, or that the process I followed/am following will work!

Good luck finding some Galaxy, I hope you get there soon.

The pic isn't showing. Is it "Jeye's Kleen Off"? Other people on this forum have successfully used that brand.

yep! it is Jeyes Kleen Off. Good to hear others have used it.

I don't know why the pic isn't showing, I shall have to practice some more. If you right click it and select properties and then follow the address it shows.

cheers.
