Video of my tank that contains butterfly splitfins (Ameca splendens) and western mosquito fish (Gambusia affinis).

Excellent. That is a true reproduction of the habitat (from my research anyway), and I always think this is the best approach. I see this species is listed as critically endangered by the IUCN in 2018, probably because of the discovery of different populations in the Sayula valley, since the IUCN did list it as extinct previously.

Unfortunately, there are more goodeid species endangered in the wild. Good thing that many of those goodeid species are bred in captivity for projects to re-release them in their natural habitats.
Love the fish and the aquarium!
Thank you...

There are a number of species that are aquarium fish that are endangered as you know, which is why it is so important not to contaminate the genetics. The day may sadly come when the only fish of those species are the ones in certain aquarists' tanks. This is why Ian Fuller is dead set against attempts to hybridize Corydoras, and I fully concur. Sir David Attenborough commented in one of his programmes that it is sad to think that so many undescribed species will become extinct before we have even discovered they exist.

And that doesn't only go for fish but also other life forms. There are still so many creatures to discover on this planet.
