Amazon Sword Query

Hi all , after a bit of info as the net seems very lacking in information and tuff i do find is conflicting against other info. i have a large amazon sword possibly around 8" across by about 10" tall ,I'm wanting to split this to make 2/3 seperate plants as this thing is huge and the root system ...Well that's something else altogether .

So query 1.how do i split this plant and 2 if i trim the roots down will this caue die off or cause a surge in growth
