I brought 3 Amano shrimp yesterday, funny looking creatures

I nearly had a panic attack this morning, looking into the tank, I saw an empty shrimp shell but only 2 shrimp. After searching my tank for 10 mins, I found the 3rd shrimp, so panic evaporated when I realized he had not been eaten but just shred it's shell.

How regular do Amano shrimp shed?

I'm not entirely sure but make sure they have lots of hiding spaces because they're vunurable when they've shred there shell. You don't want your bettas killing them!

Yeah I got lots of places, I built little hide-holes with black pebbles the other day, they seem to like going in them too.

TBH I think the bettas won't bother with them, the shrimp seem to be tough 'we give what we get' kinda shrimp

I think the one that shred today, has a kinda blue glaze over him. He/she's been hauled up in 1 of the coconut huts. It's funny, as the other 2 shrimp seem to be dragging food into there for him/her.

How can you tell when they are pregnant, too?

Apparently you can see their eggs? Not sure though

they seem like really active shrimp, I can't wait to get some

Yeah they are, very good as a clean up crew too  :good:

How many are you getting?

If my brother puts his hand in his tank his amano goes and sits on his hand

Hilarious little things aren't they  Younger shrimps shed more often than older ones. Usually every few weeks. When they carry eggs (berried), you won't miss them. They look like thousand little beads, like fish roe, under her belly.

They are entertaining, I only have 3 and am thinking of getting 1 more to make it an even number. 2 of them seem to be joined at the hip and the other one seems to taunt my fish. It is funny every time a fish comes near it, it sort of rears it front slightly up and kicks. Fish dunno what to make of it but it works

I find my amano shrimp very amusing, they like to wrestle the algae wafer from the cory's, drag it back inside the coconut shell cave then cory's are left outside very frustrated. The only thing I don't like about them is their poo, there is loads of it and I only have four shrimps!

Yeah, I've kind of noticed that. Trying to work out how to clear it up, as I don't currently have anything to clean the sand with
